When Docs Two Snip Peppy (Chief) came to our place for training in the fall of 2003 from Clark Farms, Rick was not even sure he would make a good ranch horse, as he was a laid back type of horse and Rick was use to breaking colts with a bit more energy. However, within a short amount of time Chief changed Ricks tune as he amazed Rick with his willingness to learn and his athletic ability. After a bit more time went by, Rick contacted Jack Clark to recommend he may want to send Chief off to a specialized trainer, because Chief had so much potential in so many fields. Thankfully Jack and Tina's confidence in Rick and his abilities as a trainer kept Chief at the KR Ranch for further schooling. At that point the Clark's offered Rick and Kim a partnership, which was gladly accepted. Throughout the winter Rick and Chief worked together and in the Spring of 2004 attended their first show together, an Open Reining. They took 1st in Jr Reining and 2nd in the Open class. From there Chief succeed in team penning and sorting. Later that year he was shown in his first AQHA Versatility in Ohio and took 1st place. That was the start of the journey to his becoming the 2005 AQHA Ranch Horse Versatility in both the Jr and Open Divisions. Chiefs ability to perform is showing up in his offspring, as Rick recently took on a 3yr old gelding sired by Chief and is amazed by his likeness to Chief in his willingness and quickness to learn. You can see more of "Toby" on foal page.
